Happiness and Meaning
Essential Questions:
-What is the purpose of your existence?
-What is happiness and what makes you happy?
-What does it mean to live a meaningful life?
-To what extent can literature shape your personal philosophy on happiness and meaning?

My Personal Philosophy
To find happiness is like saying “find the gold pot at the end of a rainbow”. You cannot find something that is only in the mind. You cannot search for happiness and find it at the top of a hill. You can only find happiness as a state of mind. You can find the gold pot in a state of mind that might be the state of craziness but you can find it. This search I have gone through in my life was not easy whatsoever but finding that state is closer than it has ever been before, other than the time I found $10 in pants I haven’t worn in years. To have happiness be only at the tip of your fingers is agonizing. To look at yourself trying to grab at the only thing humans strive for in their lifetime can put you through so much that the feeling of almost now feels like never. But believe it or not people have been able to be in this mindset, some by achieving Nirvana some by listening to Nirvana. I may not have been past the almost but I have been able to get at least to the almost. My gold pot will be filled to the rim of enjoyment and paradise, things that have brought me past the almost will be the rainbow leading to my fulfillment of life. This day may seem like it may never come but it will, it has to. I have tried so hard to finish my rainbow and fill my pot that I can see the top of my hill; I can smell the fresh air and I feel the state of mind approaching.
Things that have lead me to my final destination were things like looking over the city at night with Alex and Chloe, and being at the Boys and Girls Club and teaching SMART girls, which helps little girls with their self-esteem and healthy habits for when they get to be my age. Being with Amanda everyday this summer and finding new things to do every day. Being out in the middle of nowhere camping with random strangers who also signed up for Southwest Conservation Corps and doing trail work 2 miles up a random mountain. Looking at the sunset from the top of the Sand Dunes then falling down them and trying to brush off all the sand before I get in my tent. All these events have brought me to get here, where I am. Now that never feeling now feels like almost.
